At Mercia Northridge School, our enrichment offer is an integral part of school life, creating opportunities for children to collaborate, build teamwork skills and discover new interests and talents.
All students have access to a suite of enrichment activities every day as part of our extended lunchtime, as well as the option to stay for further sessions after school. We expect pupils to engage with at least three lunchtime enrichment activities per week in the dedicated lunch enrichment time.
We are committed to ensuring that pupils have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities and enriching experiences. We believe that these complement our curriculum and help with the personal development of our pupils, having a positive impact on their cultural capital.
A timetable for each half term is shared with pupils and parents, providing details of all activities, including the day, time and location. Our substantial offer runs every lunch time and after school to ensure accessibility for all pupils. Our staff offer a wide range of clubs from sporting activities to more creative ones, such as art, music or games.
There are many benefits to taking part in extra-curricular activities. Pupils can develop their interests and passions and widen creative skills. Furthermore, skills such as time management, perseverance, resilience and working toward a goal can be developed. Clubs are a brilliant opportunity for pupils to be involved in team activities, build confidence and socialise.
The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award
The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award Scheme gives our Y9 pupils the chance to develop skills for life, working independently and recording evidence for three key areas of the programme: Volunteering, Physical and Skill.
Subject to these aspects of the course being substantially completed, pupils also have the opportunity to attend an expedition programme in May and July.
