Art and Design is a deeply rewarding and enriching subject area that builds creativity, resilience, independence and problem solving. Creativity is one of the top employability skills in the UK and we want to equip our pupils with this skill so that they are confident and ambitious in their lives after school.
This is a practical subject area where pupils will learn how to use a range of different materials and media as well as developing their theoretical knowledge. Pupils will develop their art and making skills such as drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, woodwork and cooking.
Pupils will also engage in critical and contextual studies, learning to analyse and connect their work to historical and contemporary artists, different styles and relevant social or cultural contexts. A strong understanding and application of visual elements such as colour, line, form, tone, texture and composition are also developed in Art lessons.
