Overview

At Mercia Northridge School, we aim to develop mathematicians who appreciate the elegance of a complete solution, not simply the final answer. Pupils are given regular opportunities to apply their knowledge through problem solving across the curriculum, developing confidence, resilience and mathematical reasoning.

We ensure that secure mental models are carefully built, embedded and revisited so that pupils can apply their understanding to increasingly complex areas of mathematics. Key knowledge is regularly retrieved to promote fluency and rapid recall, providing strong foundations for future learning.

Pupils study all strands of mathematics at Mercia Northridge including number, algebra, geometry, ratio and proportion, and probability and statistics. These strands are thoughtfully interleaved throughout the curriculum so that pupils develop a coherent understanding of mathematics as a connected discipline, recognising the relationships between different concepts and methods.

Year 7
